Turning

I stand again in the “How the mighty have Fallen” category.

Having sidestepped adversity as a borderline miscreant, wondered through three marriages and fathered two beautiful daughters.  I now find myself in a single room sharing with two random strangers.

This is my time for healing and solitude.

It’s a quiet Saturday morning and I have nothing, literally not a pot to my name. I walk into a 1-Euro store to sounds of “Turn, Turn, Turn” playing in the background.

God is trying to tell me something again

"Turn! Turn! Turn!"

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
 A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late!
Far Cry® 5 – A Time to Heal

Isolated and in Pain

A Black Man in the UK can easily feel hunted and cornered.  Now in my early 50’s I feel like a survivor having dodged a few “Hulk” moments but I realise it’s not so easy for many of my brethren out there.

This made me stop, think and give Thanks

The making of…

As a child I used to Love just watching Mom making a cake, I was fascinated with the ingredients and methods rather than the final outcome.  Licking the spoon covered in cake mixture was pure pleasure and she spotted that early in my development.

The JigSaw movie (2017) cost 10 Million USD to make and earned over 100 Million USD….I watched the movie and it sucked.  Funnily enough, this time I bought the DVD as opposed to an overpriced cinema ticket and popcorn or catching it on streaming service.  The joy of Joy, I found an excellent series of “The making of…” documentaries on the DVD that was better than the actual movie.

The most captivating was the documentary from soundtrack composer Charlie Clouser, an absolute master of his Art and probably the number one reason I’ve followed the franchise over the past decade.

Far Cry® 5 – Some days just don’t start well

To date, I haven’t seen many documentaries on the Computer gaming industry but maybe this is just the thing to crush all the cliché assumptions from non-gamers especially around gun violent, cult-themed titles like farCry5.

Not ready for exams

With only 30 days to go, I’ve decided to jettison my exam plans.  There is simply too much emotional noise around me and it would be reckless to go in unprepared.

I’m 43 hours into my solo FarCry5 campaign and it’s stood up to all my expectation, the downside is the high level of chatter in the wild about the game which means it’s a challenge to avoid spoilers.  Even running co-op missions with a friend means you need re-do the mission on your own game and actually break-up your flow.

I’m running solo until the end game with the occasional co-op or Arcade.

Bone of Contention – Final report

As parties of our group booking headed to YahSo restaurant, we started getting calls saying there was no booking and so the evening started.  Turns out that despite seeing the owner in person and completing a booking form there was no actual table booking on their systems.

At first, I jumped to the ‘on No, not another black business with poor service’ bandwagon but dug deeper into the root cause if the problem.  Turns out the back office sticks to it procedure of booking form and deposit for all group bookings. We failed to respond in time to their Gmail account and there you have it.

Yet another case of technology taken too far, visiting the restaurant the day before with the human factor was fruitless. Booking facelessly online would have secured a table.
