Not a FarCry from the original

I’ve been playing the FarCry series since 2004 on PC and the latest edition is as faithful as ever.

First 24 hours (no spoilers)

The opening sequence is epic and pulls you into the environment kicking and screaming with brilliant seamless movie action.  No doubt, there will be a few folks who are deeply offended by the theme but they are clearly not the target audience.

My first 2-hours gameplay have been filled with discovery and exploration rather than trying to complete the main story.  I’ve listened to some baseless chatter about the main story being too short but that’s the usual complaint from gamers.

The game mechanics and control system are the same and it’s easy to forget to change the difficulty level normal to hard to get your monies worth.

Far Cry® 5 Making myself at Home

Conclusion

The map looks big enough to entertain me for at least 2-3 months and as usual, I’ll be gunning for a Platinum trophy.

First Day on the receiving end of Family Court action

Early retirement

I’ve decided to take early retirement at Level 60 on FallOut 4, freeing up hard drive space and preparing for FarCry 5.  In the meantime, I’ll do the last Global Event in March on Tom Clancy’s The Division just to get some Loot with a chance of exotic weapons and classified gear.

Still plenty of game-play left at Level 60

Right now, I’m full of winter excuses for not hitting the gym but have at least I’ve started studying again.

Fallout 4 – Nice collection

No meds today, No exercise for over 50 days

Overfilled

With Deus Ex: Mankind Divided offered to PS4 Plus members, my library is packed with full of half-eaten titles. For the most part FallOut, 4 is my main diet with StarWars Battlefront II getting some occasional screen time.

Over the holidays I had to really steal gaming time (30-40 mins a day) and it was barely quality as I sat in the kitchen trying to rank up and complete missions. It was a great time though but now it’s back to work, work and play.

Missed the boat?

Installation in progress

As the dust and hype settles on the Star Wars Battlefront 2 launch fiasco which saw the powerful corporates bend the knee to an outraged player community. I sit here with have my PS4 disk in hand and ready to install.

On Twitch.tv the game has 143,139 followers and consistently runs about 11,400 viewers.  Compare this to its predecessor which is now pretty much a player graveyard currently with 205,238 followers and 9 Viewers.

I was 10 when I first saw Star Wars so all this stuff just resonates in my DNA.

Fallout 4 landscape is massive

Of course, now the dilemma is how to spend my time between the wastelands of FallOut4 and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Lurking squishy tanks spawn camping for snipers

Gaming terms are always colourful and ever-changing. Watch any committed streamer on Twitch.TV and you will soon be looking up the terms or simply wondering  “what did he just say?”.

Language always brings people together and makes it very easy to spot an outsider or faker.

The level of game analysis you can see on The Division™ is truly educational.  Maths, logical thinking and creativity to doctorate levels.   Gaming PhDs (FROG – Future and Reality of Gaming) will be hosting their 11th Vienna Games Conference in Austria this week and chances are that I’ll show up just to lurk for an hour or so even if it’s all in German.

There is still not much middle ground between Players and Academia.  Normal folk simply view Computer games as toys for school kids.

I’ve jumped back into Tom Clancy’s The Division™ [now patched to version 1.7] after adding some more streamers to my follow list and watching some deep game analysis.  I still haven’t finished the main story or reached the max rank but slightly more educated on what guns to go for.

My 2017 Division shopping list

SASG 12 - ShotGun semi auto
G36 - Assault rifle
Scar-H - Rifle
M60 - Light machine Gun - Hungry Hog

Running away from the Real World

FallOut 4 has proven to be the ultimate escape from reality especially when things are not going so good.

15+ hours of full-on FallOut gameplay this week.

…not good.

Fallout 4 – Back at Yard

Killing zombies and building virtual houses is much more fun than dealing with things I “should have” or “could have” done.

Fallout 4 – Got my Eye on You

The problem with Digital content games is that you simply can’t take out the disk from your console if you want to lay off it for a while.

It took 5 seconds to delete a game that will take hours to re-install.
